Zerkovitz Béla was the author of several famous songs in the first part of the 20th century. His contemporaries were sure that he was the most popular poet in the country. In the play you can hear some of his evergreen and funny melodies. But that is not all - magnificent actors and splendid dances help to create this amusing, humorous story with sudden and surprising turns. In Pest, in Józsefváros, in Nagytemplom street the people in the street are looking forward to celebrating Katóka. Katóka, whose full name is Pünkösdi Kató is a young actress who i playing the leading role of the operetta The kissing lady in the theatre. Her stepfather, the butcher Kubanek Tóbiás and all the others in the house are arranging the engagement party of Katóka and Dorozsmai Pista. In the meantime the Baron Tarpataky the famous patron of art arrives to Nagytemplom street because he saw her afternoon performance which he liked very much and now wants to invite her to his palace in Bajza street. Katóka does not accept the invitation. Dorozsmai cannot get back the wedding rings that had been pawned so he takes refuge in a private music-hall performance. The engagement guests are waiting for the fiancé, but he cannot be found. Katóka is desperate - she leaves Nagytemplom street and goes to Bajza street...
