33rd Festival of Folk Arts - The festival of families

Hungary's greatest folk art festival, The Festival of Folk Arts is organized the 33rd times this year between 17-20th of August in the Buda Castle. The widely known event, which presents the best masters, is the most welcomed family program of the year. The event is a great opportunity for everyone, including children, adults and betters; to meet with folk culture, try different folk professions, wonder the masterpieces of artisans, learn interesting facts about kokeshi dolls, furoshiki bundles, mizuhiki meshing and other interesting traditional pieces.
The main focus is on the Hungarian handicraftsmen, who are the best representatives of ancient traditional folk professions. During the event, you can meet and try more than 800 Hungarian and 150 foreign masters' profession in almost 100 workhouses.
In 2019, guest of honor on the Festival of Folk Arts is Japan, and the highlighted topic: is footwear. We put a significant emphasis on Slippers of Szeged. Exhibitions, fashion shows are waiting for those who are interested in the masterpieces, which are living their renaissance. Moreover, you will have the possibility to learn some secrets from footwear masters through observation, and to experience how traditions are re-interpreted by Hungarian contemporary footwear makers.
The 33rd Festival of Folk Arts is blandishing with all-day-long stage programs, folk dance shows, children playhouses, concerts and a real festival atmosphere for its visitors.

Festival tickets are valid throughout the day!
Opening: 10.00 AM

Opening hours:
from 10am to 11pm, 20th August 10am to 9pm.
Artisans programs are available from 10am to 9pm. The stage programs and dance shows last until 11pm.

Full price ticket: 2500 HUF
Reduced price 1500 HUF (youths aged 4-18 and retired)

2 adults és 1 youths aged under 14: 5400 HUF
2 adults és 2 youths aged under 14: 6400 HUF
2 adults és 3 youths aged under 14: 7400 HUF
2 adults és 4 youths aged under 14: 8400 HUF

Free admission for children under the age of 4

The tickets are also valid for entrance to the exhibitions of the Budapest History Museum - Castle Museum and The first bastion Pop-up exhibition ( I.Táncsics str. 9.)
The valid wristband for the Festival of Folk Arts provides a 50-percent discount for the exhibitions in the Várkert Bazaar.
For the safety of children please ask for our special wrist band for children free of charge at the information desk.

Direct approach as pedestrian
- Buda Castle, from the direction of the Dísz square
- From the Clark Ádám square at the bank of the Danube (by Funicular as well), or through the Várkert Bazár
- From the Castle road (at Dózsa György square) to the floor of the Castle by the Castle elevator: fee of the elevator 200 HUF / person / way (free over 65 years) - can be used by ONLY 200 HUF coin- from where you can get to the Hunyadi garden through the corridor.

From the city by public transport
From Deák square (Pest side): Get on bus number 16, and take off at Clark Ádám square or Dísz square
From Ferenciek square (Pest side): Get on bus number 5 or 178, and take off at Dózsa György square, from where the Castle elevator is available via stairs.
From Széll Kálmán square (Buda side): Get on bus number 16, 116 or 16A and take off at Dísz square.
From Móricz Zsigmond square / Gellért quare (Buda side): Get on tram number 56 take off at Dózsa György tér from where the Castle elevator is available OR at Széll Kálmán square where bus 16, 116 or 16A is available.

The price of the ticked does not include the fee of the funicular and the usage of the OSZK elevator.
You can only enter the festival with valid and not damaged armband.
By purchasing the ticket, you automatically accept the regulations of the Festival of Folk Arts.

Tickets can be exchanged (any day of the event, only once) for armbands at the following information pavilion from 10.00 AM to 8.00 PM: St. György Square or at Clark Ádám Square Information pavilion
